Privacy notice

Who we are

Lekki Peculiar School is the data controller for the information described in this notice. You can reach us at A Close, Ocean Palm Estate, Ogidan, Lekki, Lagos, by phone on 0812 000 9300, or by email at info@peculiarschools.com.

What we collect

When you register a child with us, we collect:

• About your child: name, date of birth, gender, nationality, state of origin, religion, home address, and the class applied for.
• Health information: genotype, blood group, allergies, ongoing medical conditions, regular medication, immunisation status, swimming ability, and your family doctor’s details.
• About you: names, relationship to the child, phone numbers, email addresses, occupation and employer.
• Safeguarding information: emergency contacts, people authorised to collect your child, people who must not collect your child, and any custody arrangements you tell us about.
• Education history: previous school, last class completed and reason for leaving.
• Service preferences: boarding, school bus route and enrichment interests.

We do not ask for your BVN, your NIN, your bank details or your income. If any form appears to ask you for these on our behalf, please contact the school office before providing them.

Why we collect it, and our lawful basis

• To admit and educate your child, which we do on the basis of the contract between us and your consent as parent or guardian.
• To keep your child safe, including medical care in an emergency and making sure only authorised adults collect them. Health data is sensitive personal data, and we process it on the basis of the explicit consent you give at registration and to protect your child’s vital interests.
• To contact you about admissions, fees, school events and your child’s progress.
• To promote the school, using photographs and video, but only where you have given that separate optional consent.

Consent, and how to change your mind

Consent for photography and for marketing messages is optional, and your child’s place with us is never affected by how you answer. You can withdraw any consent at any time by writing to info@peculiarschools.com, and we will act on it without asking you to justify the request.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with our teaching and administrative staff who need it to do their jobs, with medical professionals in an emergency, and with the service providers who host our systems. Registration data is stored in Google Workspace, which means it may be processed on servers outside Nigeria under Google’s data protection terms.

How long we keep it

• Where a child enrols, we keep their record for the duration of their time with us and for seven years afterwards.
• Where an application is unsuccessful or withdrawn, we delete the record after twelve months.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you and your child;
• have inaccurate information corrected;
• ask us to delete data we no longer have a reason to keep;
• object to processing, or ask us to restrict it;
• withdraw consent you have given; and
• complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Keeping it secure

Access to registration records is restricted to staff who need it. Our systems are protected by the access controls in our Google Workspace account, and the sheets and folders holding this data are not shared by public link.

Changes to this notice

If we change this notice we will update the version and date above. Where a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you directly.
